I was born with biliary atresia the first year of my life was extremely difficult and the most turbulent times of my parent’s life. After constant doctors visits, multiple visits to the emergency room, and an unsuccessful Kasia procedure it became clear that my last hope would be a liver transplant.
My mother was a match and was ready to do anything to see me healthy. Three days before my first birthday I successfully received part of my mother’s liver.
We both had remarkable recoveries from the surgery and now share the same scar. I am now twenty-five years post-transplant! I will be forever grateful to my team and my mom as my donor and hero. Due to my transplant not only was I able to keep living, but I have had a full life unburdened by constant hospital visits.
I now have a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Tech, a full-time job, and living a very active life outside of work. Whether it be running with my dog, biking mountain and road, or planning a hiking trip for the weekend, I will always remember how blessed I am to be alive.
